The third annual Back to School Rally takes place tomorrowFriday, Aug. 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at The Summit at Mount Olivet. There will be music, 200 fully-packed book bags, school supplies, face painting, hot dogs, drinks and more! All of Peekskill is invited.

At last year’s rally, Tuesday Paige McDonald, the event’s organizer, told The Peekskill Post that the idea for the rally came from Rev. Robert E. Young when he arrived at Mount Olivet.

Rev. Dr. Robert Young, came in and he asked if we do back to school rallies, and I thought, wow, I have been here for 15 years and I have never heard of one, she said. So, I had two weeks last year to get it together. This is an opportunity for Mount Olivet Baptist Church to give back to the community. We are here giving away 200 book bags for students from kindergarten to 12th grade filled with school supplies and just to have fun and truly come together as a city and as a community. When I first put this event together last year, we talked about providing parents and students with the community resources to help them as they are gearing up for back to school. That is why the school district and youth bureau are here, our sororities are here and all the agencies that help our community on a daily basis.

The Summit at Mount Olivet is located at 1432 Park Street in Peekskill.
