Muriel Helbraun passed away Sunday, Sept. 17, at the age of 94. She spent 25 years teaching the children of Peekskill Spanish and English. Her obituary is below.

Muriel Seid Helbraun, 94, a longtime resident of Cortlandt Manor and Peekskill, died on Sept. 17. Muriel was born in New York City to Lillian Shaffer Horowitz and Al Horowitz. Mrs. Helbraun was a retired Spanish and English teacher, having taught at Drum Hill Junior High (Middle School) and Peekskill High School for 25 years. She was also chairperson of the foreign language department (when there was such a position).
She was a member of Temple Israel in Croton, a life member of Hadassah, a member of Sisterhood of F.H.C. of Temple Israel as well as a member of the auxiliary of HVHC. She was predeceased by her first husband—Jerome Leonard Seid—on May 2, 1974, and her second husband—Dr. Henry Wm. Helbraun—on Nov. 15, 1999. She is survived by her daughter—Phyllis Seid—of California, a granddaughter—Jenna French—of California and a nephew—Steven Bolten—of Florida, as well as several great nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Temple Israel Northern Westchester, located at 31 Glengary Road in Croton-on-Hudson.
