Peekskill Mayor Frank Catalina released the following information Monday morning:

“At 9 this morning, my office was notified by Entergy that the Indian Point Power Plant will cease operations in late 2020 thru early 2021. No information was provided regarding the manner in which the shut down would occur and/or how employees would be affected.

No information was provided with respect to supplying the 25 percent of electricity this plant provides to New York City and the surrounding counties. No information was provided with respect to the future of the site, the stored nuclear waste that is present on site nor how New York State will aid the municipalities and school districts that face the catastrophic consequences of this closure.

I fully expect that many details will be forthcoming in the days, weeks and months to come, but as of now, this appears to be an irreversible event and a very sad day for this immediate area and the thousands of families that will be directly affected.”
