While the rainy weather forced Wednesday’s Veterans Day celebration indoors from Memorial Park to Peekskill’s Oliver Chase American Legion on McKinley Street, it surely did not dampen the spirit of the day.
Area veterans, members of the Peekskill police and fire departments joined residents and luminaries—Mayor Frank Catalina and members of the Common Council, Councilman-elect Andre Rainey, former Mayor Fran Gibbs, Assemblywoman Sandy Galef, Congresswoman Nita Lowey and former Congressman Joseph DioGuardi—for an hour-long ceremony followed by lunch.
Highlights included speeches by Army Chaplain Rev. Anthony Stephens, retired USMC medic and Peekskill native Greg Emery, and a patriotic soundtrack provided by Joe Brady, the Peekskill High School band and Vietnam veteran Tim Murphy. Post Commander Robert Boddie and Vice Commander John Donahue emceed the event.
