Editor’s Note: The following information was posted on the Peekskill St. Patrick’s Committee Facebook page by Bill Powers, chairman of the committee.

It is with a heavy heart that we share this sad news. Our 2017 Grand Marshal Mike O’Hanlon passed away Aug. 28 following a long illness and a hard-fought battle. He was surrounded by his loving family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Maggie, Katherine, Michael Jr., and Martin at this time. Many did not know, but Mike was battling his illness throughout our 2017 St. Patrick’s celebration.

Among Mike’s many accomplishments are his amazing family, award-winning musical talent, and stellar fire fighting career—with most notably his work on and after 9/11. I am attaching his biography which appeared in our dinner journal in March.

We wish love, light and prayers for the O’Hanlon family, Mike’s friends, Mike’s fellow firefighters and his AOH brothers. Though saddened by his loss, we can take some comfort in knowing that we gave Mike an amazing salute for being the quintessential Irish American. We send Mike into God’s hands today as our 2017 Grand Marshal and celebrate a life well-lived, and a life emblematic of the Irish-American dream that we all share.
