The two registered Democrats on the Mayor Frank Catalina-led Peekskill United ticket—Luis Segarra and Robert Sullivan—are collecting signatures from other registered Democrats in the city in an effort to force a September primary for the Democrat line. If one or both men force a primary by gathering the required number of signatures, it is possible that Segarra and/or Sullivan could ultimately run on both the D and R lines in the fall election for Peekskill Common Council.

In a June 11 press release, the Peekskill GOP said the following:
Peekskill United is committed on a bipartisan focus of governing, which is why two of their candidates are registered Democrats. As duly registered Democrats, Luis Segarra and Robert Sullivan have opted to exercise their basic right to run for office and give members of their registered party a choice for who they want on the ballot in November. Many like-minded mainstream Democrats believe the same thing and are helping them obtain the required number of signatures on designating petitions to create a primary on Sept. 12 for Common Council in Peekskill.
Luis and Robert both feel the Democratic committee has brought forth candidates that lack the experience and qualifications to lead the city in the right direction. These party boss choices proclaim they are “Not Your Parent’s Democratic Party’” which has many Peekskill Democrats concerned about the direction of the party. They look to divide the community and malign and lash out at anyone who disagrees with them.
Luis and Robert are solid Democrats who want what is best for Peekskill and all families. They know that the best way to accomplish positive outcomes is to work together to bring collaborative and informed decisions for our community, and to do it in an open and transparent manner. To act with integrity and honesty, an approach not followed by present Democratic office holders. It is time for a change.
Robert Sullivan, a registered Democrat, is the son of a mail carrier, a Navy Veteran, a graduate of St. John’s University School of Law and a lawyer for the past 36 years. He is 29-year resident of Peekskill, a cancer survivor and loving husband to his wife, Cathy, of over 43 years.
Luis Segarra studied at Pace University for Business Management. He is Principal and CFO of The Crescent Companies, a resident of Peekskill for the past 23 years, a member of the National Hispanic Business Group and The African American Chamber of Commerce. Luis also co-chairs the National Hispanic Business Group “Tee-Up for Scholarships” and is a loving husband and Father to his wife of over 25 years, and son and daughter.
