During the Oct. 25 candidates forum held at the Field Library, the following question was asked: Are you in favor of Peekskill declaring itself a sanctuary city, and why? The two mayoral candidates, Republican Mayor Frank Catalina and Democratic Councilman Andre Rainey, had different takes on the matter.
In answering the question, Catalina said, “We are, in effect, a sanctuary city.”
When Rainey answered the question, he said, “In my opinion, no we are not a sanctuary city.”
Both candidates explained their reasons and spoke for several minutes on the topic. The full discussion can be seen by clicking HERE and going to the 17:58 mark.
