A new year, a new administration but an old, familiar problem in Peekskill: water main breaks.

Low water pressure and service outages are affecting higher elevations on the south end of the city Monday evening due to what the Peekskill police termed a “water leak.” As of 9:30 p.m., officer Brandon Kruithof told The Peekskill Post that the Water Department is working on the leak but there is no timetable for a repair.

In the past, officials at the Water Department have recommended that residents run their water until any discoloration is no longer present.

“At this point, there is not any advice to that effect going out, but if there is, we will put it out through the proper channels,” Kruithof said.

City workers were also busy earlier in the day restoring water service after a water main break. The Department of Public Works has closed Lower South Street, south of Louisa Street, through at least Tuesday morning, due to icing.
